Hello Sabri76! I am delighted about getting a message from someone on the VikiSözlük of english level #3 and a burokrat for that matter! But: I only know about 100 turkish words and very little turkish grammar. So if you want that I really understand your message, please redo it in english. What am I doing on VikiSözlük? Well, I try to cover a very specific category on the greek wiktionary: greek words of turkish origin and the VikiSözlük helps me find out the contemporay meaning of the words; I even sometimes click on the Türk Dil Kurumu and with the help of the Oxford Turkish-English Dictonary by Hony/İz (published 1946, not very contemporary as I attest time and again) I somehow get along. I am doing some preliminary reading on the english Wikipedia about the turkish language and I wonder about the greater staying power of arabic words over the comparably lesser staying power of persian words in the turkish language. What is the root of this phenomenon? Why are there more arabic words in mondern turkish than farsi words? Didn't all arabic words (or most of them) enter the turkish language through farsi? Somehow I am convinced that I will not find an answer to this question in the wikipedia pages... I know that farsi was used in polite correspondance and speech, in divan poetry and goverment; while arabic being the language of the Ku'ran was also the language of the law. Right? By the way, in case you are wondering: I spent my childhood in İstanbul (1952-1959), hence the interest; it was a different İstanbul then than it is now!My best wishes,Zafran59 04:15, 9 Haziran 2010 (UTC)

Hi Zafran! I will make it this message in English. You asked me "Why are there more arabic words in mondern turkish than farsi words?". First of all, during the Abbasid Caliphate, Turkish people had already allowing Islam. Most of prayers and worships is in Arabic language. Thus, we have used some arabic words in our lives and our Old Turkic langıauge has been infulenced by Arabic and Farsi words, but there are more Arabic words in our language than Farsi words due to Ku'ran's language. Then, the Ottoman Empire was launched more and more Arabic and Farsi words was become part of our languages. Fortunately, we had a inspirational leader, who is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, launched Turkish Republic in 1923 and he also minded the Turkish language enslavement by foreign languages (e.g. Arabic, Farsi, French). So, he founded Türk Dil Kurumu (Turkish Language Association) and began to work on foreign descent words for changing into Turkish words. We owe to him because of his studies and also revolutions. You are also right in your determinations. Now, a little Turkish people know Arabic or Farsi language. Unfortunately, since 1950s, Istanbul has been exposed to internal migration. For instance my family settled to Istanbul in 1970s. It's the most crowded city in Turkey but there is an earthquake hazard and most of buildings are weak for earthquake. So, most of people will die for this reason. Our government is not enough to take acuse. Anyway, nice to see you in Türkçe Vikisözlük, sorry for my #2.5 English level.
